We will rock you!

Universal studios was the last stage of the tour before we left for the airport, and the boys found it enjoyable. The Mummy Returns ride was pretty cool, and Jurasic Park Drop left some adults teary, however the highlight for many was the tour of the studios. We passed shows currently being filmed, such as Crossing Jordan and Desperate Housewives as well as seing where many movies were made. After having to take our shoes off (and as a result put up with an interesing aroma) at the airport security section, we were left with some time to relax, enjoy an undercooked hot dog, and play grid iron with a nurf ball. We were finally heading home after a wirlwind tour.
I would like to thank everybody who helped us get over to the USA and to the boys on their superb behaviour all tour and for being fine embassadors for the college. Best wishes for the future. There may be another tour left in us after all!

Dunked on!

After some rest and relaxation involving Disney and California land - the boys were faced with a tough opposition in St Bernards. These boys were well skilled and we were outplayed in both JV and V games. Although Haydn and some other boys felt the effects of some dodgy lunch, the boys soldiered on in their last game. The highlight of the varsity game was the alley oop dunk (lucky Matt Crackel got out the way!) the weakside dunk, and the tip jam that was ruled out. The St Bernard boys joined our guys for a great feast (including fried chicken - which was sensational!). Trian Iliadis tried his best to enter in the makeover competition, requiring 4 stitches to his cheek (being rewarded for blocking a shot and coming down on an elbow). The county hospital was an interesting experience (ask Myles what happens if you change the TV channel), and by the end of the evening we were one day closer to home.

You stay classy San Diego

After a few days in Phoenix - mainly shopping at the local mall, we travelled to beautiful San Diego. A very classy place to live, San Diego is similar to Perth. The zoo was fantastic and the boys enjoyed a nice harbourside meal. The boys picked up victories v High Tech High and Gompers Secondary. The last game would be vs St Bernards.

Grand Canyon Delight

After recovering from a heartbreaking loss to Boulder City, the boys rebounded in great style vs Grand Canyon High School. Both the JV and Varsity games were won in comfortable fashion, and the team seems to be getting its groove on! Matthew Crackel played a fantastic JV game, as did Daniel Mills. Jamie Gotti looked solid, and Haydn Tieleman is starting to look confident inside the paint! Grand Canyon High were very hospitable, and we enjoyed a great meal after the game.

After the evening was spent in a fab hotel, we were on our way to the Grand Canyon for some serious sight seeing (and for the majority of the boys - sleep on the bus!). The Canyon was awesome, it cannot be put into words how spectacular it really is. Even the boys running on 2-3 hours sleep were impressed!

Stay tuned for more posts!

Trinity vs Boulder City SHS

This was certainly the day the boys were eagerly anticipating. The day started with a nice tour to the Hoover Dam, which is certainly a man made marvel to behold. After each player finished rubbing the feet of the lady liberty statute for good luck, we headed off for some well needed practice and competition against Boulder City.

The Junior Varsity game was a very one sided affair until the last 2 minutes, where a spate of fouls and made baskets closed the gap to within 3 points. However the Trinity boys prevailed with a well deserved win in a frenzied finish. The JV starting 5 consisted of Myles Pover (C), Luke Conca, Stef Fiorina, Mark Ciancotti and Wayd Blakiston. Haydn Tieleman, Ben Norman and Vini Nici were set to play a double header - playing both the JV and Varsity games.

The big match up for the evening was the Varsity clash. Trinity came out very strong leading into the major break 36 to 27. Unfortunately fouls and fatigue crept into the side, and by the mid point of the 4th quarter Trinity was down by 14 points. As far as TC spirit goes, the boys dug deep, and pulled within 2 points with 40 secs to go. The game was full of should of could of would of's, however I was very proud of the way the boys conducted themselves and stuck to the task as men. We went down fighting 65 - 63 in a very close tussle.

Trian Iliadis led all scorers with 28pts and Jacob Reed finished with a strong showing of 18pts. The boys were disappointed as it literally came down to the last shot, however the boys have a deeper resolve to put away opportunities and avoid the last minute clinches in future games.

Time flies when you are having fun!

After attempting to recover from jet lag, the group has enjoyed a couple of days of shopping, sight seeing and basketball! Whilst the boys are doing everything in their power to ensure that their style of clothing is 2nd to none, the highlight of the tour thus far has been the NBA clash between the warriors and the celtics, and today's clash between UCLA and Washington.

We were fortunate enough to be allowed courtside for the pre-game shoot around at the Oracle Arena, and a chuffed Matthew Crackel received a high five from one of the best NBA players in the leage at the moment - Baron Davis. However today's College game was voted by all tour members as the highlight so far. The sense of passion and patriotism was unbelievable. I think we are all UCLA fans from now on!

We spent new year's eve in Downtown Disneyland - at the Tropical Rainforest cafe, then to the ESPN zone, before joining the 100,000 people in the countdown to 2007. The crowd enjoyed the boys 4 renditions of the Trinity rumble, and were curious as to why we would use words such as ompa ompa in a song!

We are due to depart for Las Vegas tomorrow, and we look forward to our first game vs Boulder City High School. The boys send their best wishes to everyone at home.

Safely in San Fran!

The USA tour has officially commenced! To our surprise we had another leg added to our flight path (Sinapore to Seoul Korea) - before touching down in San Francisco. We were greeted by a much cooler climate and immediately were praising the warmth of the jackets! The tour bus is massive and we certainly have been spoilt with travelling in confort.

After driving through down town San Fran we were taken to a place known as Twin Peaks and were lucky to experience near perfect viewing of the bay area. I hope you enjoy the photos.

Looking forward to takeoff

The Trinity College USA Basketball tour is set to take off on Thursday 28 December. The boys have been working particularly hard, and combined with their recent victory in the All Schools Basketball Classic - are ready to take on the heavy weights of Basketball in their own back yard!
To help promote the tour two of the boys - Vini Nici (left) and Trian Iliadis (middle) were invited to Santa Maria College to be interviewed on the My Mixgirl Talk program (95.3fm). The boys were a big hit (especially when Vini promoted Netball on air).

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all families for their support throughout the fundraising process and allowing your boys to experience the sport at the highest level.
Not long to go now!
